And it\u2019s perfectly understandable to feel like everyone is against you if you are being mistreated.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe your boss yelled at you for someone else\u2019s mistake or you were laid off after years of working for this company. It could also be a misunderstanding with a friend or rejection from a person you like.<\/p>\n<p>It can be difficult to accept things that are not up to you. It <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/mind\/feeling-powerless-what-to-do\/\">takes your power away<\/a>. You feel that you don\u2019t deserve it and it\u2019s utterly unfair, but there is nothing you can do about it. Since you can\u2019t point out a logical reason for what happened, you ask yourself over and over again,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhy is everyone against me? What have I done wrong? Why does everyone hate me?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Sadly, life doesn\u2019t always make sense. Sometimes bad and unfair things just happen. It\u2019s probably one of the hardest truths to accept about life.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Low_self-esteem\"><\/span>2 Low self-esteem<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-742\" src=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-cope-with-existential-depression.jpg\" alt=\"how to cope with existential depression\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-cope-with-existential-depression.jpg 800w, https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-cope-with-existential-depression-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-cope-with-existential-depression-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/how-to-cope-with-existential-depression-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Feeling like everyone is against you may also be an illusion that arises from your self-esteem issues.<\/p>\n<p>Say that you are an insecure person who <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/communication\/socially-inept-definition-signs\/\">lacks confidence and social mastery<\/a>. You desperately want to make new friends and gain popularity, but because of your insecurities, you struggle to start conversations with people.<\/p>\n<p>You attend one gathering after another, but no one seems to show any interest in you. What a disappointment! You may begin to feel like people dislike you and everyone is against you for some unknown reason. Otherwise, someone would come talk to you, right?<\/p>\n<p>Not quite. No one hates you. People are just being busy living their lives and hanging out with their friends, that&#8217;s all.<\/p>\n<p>Low self-esteem can easily distort your perception of other people\u2019s behaviors, making them seem more negative and hostile than they are.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Manipulation\"><\/span>3. Manipulation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some people are skillful manipulators. If you are susceptible to suggestion, they can talk you into believing the most outrageous lies about yourself and others.<\/p>\n<p>Particularly malevolent manipulators such as psychopaths and narcissists use a <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/7093877\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technique<\/a> called gaslighting. It aims to make another person question their reality.<\/p>\n<p>For example, your narcissistic boyfriend may try to convince you that your best friend said something offensive to you at yesterday\u2019s get-together. But you remember that she didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, your boyfriend is so convincing that you begin to wonder whether you misheard your friend\u2019s words. This is when you start to have doubts about her. What if <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/communication\/signs-your-friend-doesnt-respect-you\/\">your friend indeed doesn\u2019t respect you<\/a>? What if she is secretly against you?<\/p>\n<p>This is what manipulators do \u2013 they isolate you from others. And to achieve this goal, they will try to persuade you that everyone is against you. Everyone <em>except for them<\/em>. It\u2019s all part of their devious psychological game.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Mental_health_issues\"><\/span>4. Mental health issues<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When I suffered from anxiety and it was at its worst, it distorted my perception in so many ways. An innocent remark would sound like a sign of emotional invalidation. A casual glance from a stranger would look like a threat.<\/p>\n<p>I constantly felt like no one understood me and my struggle with anxiety. I asked myself,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhy is everyone against me? Why don\u2019t they understand how I feel?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In reality, I should have asked,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWhy do <strong>I feel<\/strong> like everyone is against me?\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Because it was <em>me<\/em> and <em>my distorted perception<\/em>, not others. Mental disorders make us misunderstand other people and yet, we are feeling like everyone misunderstands us. What a sad irony.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_Wrong_company\"><\/span>5. Wrong company<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>If you feel like your friends are against you, it could be that <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/communication\/signs-someone-doesnt-want-to-be-your-friend\/\">they are not your friends at all<\/a>. Do they constantly reject your suggestions and dismiss your feelings? Do they leave you out of their plans? Do they say mean jokes to you?<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we end up in the wrong company without even realizing it. It\u2019s particularly easy to fall into this trap when you are a teenager or young adult. You want to gain acceptance and have a circle of friends so much that you may hang out with the people who are not right for you.<\/p>\n<p>So, if <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/communication\/feeling-left-out-friends-family\/\">your friends make you feel ignored, left out<\/a>, and disrespected over and over again, you may need to reevaluate your social circle.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_Crisis\"><\/span>6. It may be a mid-life crisis that leads you to question your achievements in life. It could also be <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/mind\/existential-depression-signs\/\">existential depression<\/a> that makes you think about death and your mission in this world.<\/p>\n<p>These examples have at least two things in common: firstly, they make you reconsider everything, and secondly, they leave you feeling alienated from everyone. You suddenly focus on the things that separate you from other people. You feel misunderstood and alone.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe world is against me\u201d, \u201ceveryone is against me\u201d, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/communication\/no-one-understands-me\/\">no one understands me<\/a>\u201d<\/em> are some of the thoughts you may make during an existential crisis.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Conflict\"><\/span>7. Conflict<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Did you recently have a severe disagreement with someone you care about?<\/p>\n<p>Conflict with your parents, friends, or special someone can fuel the illusion of hostility. This effect is especially pronounced if you face a misunderstanding from a group of people such as your friends or both of your parents.<\/p>\n<p>Having harsh disagreements within your support system can make you lose the ground under your feet. Your friends and family are supposed to support you, so why are they going against you?<\/p>\n<p>You may even begin to feel like everyone is plotting against you because your family doesn\u2019t approve of your choices.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_Sensitivity\"><\/span>8. Sensitivity<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As I said in the introduction, sometimes I feel like everyone is against me because I don\u2019t fit into modern society.<\/p>\n<p>It seems like every single piece of information from mainstream mass media goes against my beliefs and values. As if the whole world went crazy and I\u2019m called to participate in an absurd theater play.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/personality\/deep-thinker-definition-signs\/\">sensitive deep thinker,<\/a> then you probably know what I\u2019m talking about. Maybe you are feeling exactly the same way too.<\/p>\n<p>Even though feeling like the world is against you is not a nice experience, there is a bright side to it. It\u2019s an indicator of sensitive nature and independent thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, you may be affected too deeply and take things too personally because of your sensitivity. But at the same time, you <a href=\"https:\/\/powerofmisfits.com\/mind\/how-to-be-true-to-yourself\/\">stay true to yourself<\/a> and don\u2019t let sick society turn you into someone you are not.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIt is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>-J.
